8th Grade Families

At Francisco Middle School, your 8th grade counselor, David Kaplan, is your go-to person for your questions about high schools, the enrollment process, deadlines, and advice.  This page will also serve as a resource of information for you, as well as the SFUSD website. Feel free to contact David at

There are 14 high schools in SFUSD. High schools do not have an attendance area like the elementary schools do, and unlike middle schools, there is NO high school feeder system. All high schools are city-wide schools.

You may list as many high schools as you like on your application. Learn more here about the application process, tie breakers, and more.

What are A-G Courses?
A-G courses are a series of course requirements that students must take and pass in high school in order to be considered qualified to apply to the California State University or University of California systems for college. Not all high schools require all students to take and pass A- G courses in order to graduate with a high school diploma. That means your child may be passing all their classes, but could be taking the wrong classes and turn out to not be eligible for a CSU or UC school. For example, pre-algebra in the 9th, grade would not be considered a college preparatory, A-G class.  To see if the school you are considering offers A-G courses, click here and select the school you're considering.
